CONFIGURATION AND SETTINGS

Installation

Installation of FBI is simple:

1. Unzip fbi.zip using winzip ( http://www.winzip.com ) or a similar product
    
2. Click on fbi.exe to run FBI client
    
3. FBI requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be on your computer. FBI installation will detect if you do not already have this, and will help you to install it. If you have difficulties with this process, you can download and install the JRE yourself from http://java.sun.com ( the recommended version is JSE 1.5.0 )
    
4. Log-in to FBI using the login and password you obtain from HMRC. The first time you use FBI, the login and password will be used to verify with HMRC that you are an approved user. On subsequent uses, FBI does not need to connect to HMRC to revalidate you, since it already knows that you are a valid user. If you do not have a login and password you will need to contact HMRC to obtain them
    
5. Once you have successfully logged in you can all the features of FBI to send, receive, review, and maintain messages

SSL Certificates

Naturally, it is important that FBI communicates with HMRC in a highly secure way - thus protecting your sensitive data during transmission. Internally, FBI uses HMRC Public Certificates which enable FBI and HMRC to both validate that received messages have not been subject to security breaches. FBI reads these certificates from a file located at <instalation>/security/trustedcerts.

Remark: To increase security, certificates are valid for a limited time period ( usually one year ). Before certificates expire, Selima Software will provide you with new security certificates to ensure continuity of service.
